What is Birth Boot Camp?
Birth Boot Camp is a company that trains educators (like me!) to provide their evidence-based classes for expecting couples and their families, hosts online classes to accommodate those who are unable to take live classes, and certifies doulas to provide care for women during labor and birth.
Birth Boot Camp was founded by Donna Ryan and focuses on the basic principles found in Mother-Friendly Care. The curriculum is constantly updated to reflect current research, something that impressed my husband and I when we took the class.
All classes that I offer use the Birth Boot Camp curriculum and workbooks, including the Early Pregnancy Class, Childbirth Education, Reboot Refresher Course, and Sibling Birth Class.
What classes are offered?
I wish that this class had been available when I was pregnant! Most women don’t learn about keeping their pregnancy low-risk through diet and exercise until the third trimester, and by then, it may be too late. You can start early – use this class to learn about proper nutrition and exercise while pregnant and increase your chances of having a natural birth and positive birth experience.
This was the class my husband and I took while I was pregnant! The focus of this class is preparing couples for a natural birth. We loved it because it’s comprehensive and evidence-based. The class encompasses all things related to pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and breastfeeding. Plus, the Birth Boot Camp curriculum developers are continually updating it to reflect current evidence.
Have you already had a natural birth and are expecting your next baby? This class would be perfect for you. It’s a refresher of comfort techniques, relaxation, and positions in labor, as well as an update to what is new in the birthing “world”, like new evidence and new practices. I also address whatever fears or questions you have with this baby and birth, so we can alleviate those before labor starts.
As our culture is once again recognizing natural birth as normal, women are beginning to invite their children to their siblings’ births. Make sure your child is ready with a birth class just for them. They’ll learn (in age-appropriate ways) about where the baby lives, what it is like when the baby is born, and ways they can help mom and dad when little brother or sister arrives.
The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.
